This course for freshmen at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature seeks to further improve the four skills in English communication through various language tasks and challenges in each class. Particularly, this course encourages students to explore the profound knowledge presented in English; improvements in the language skills are simply a natural by-product of the process. Along with general topics, this course also features the theme "cognitive science", which involves discussions of topics in the field of psychology, language learning, and language communication. These are subjects directly relevant to the students' major in foreign languages and literature, and thus help develop their critical thinking along with the language skills.
